Scholarships Available for QuickJobs Industry-Based Training
PENDLETON – Tri-County Technical College received a $398,786 grant to award up to 160 scholarships for industry-based training that can give individuals the skills training and certifications that can qualify them to work in local manufacturing within four to six weeks.
The grant was awarded to Tri-County by the SC Department of Employment and Workforce through the SC Technical College System. Individuals can receive Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) training in the areas of Certified Production Technician (CPT) and Material Handler/MSSC Certified Logistics Associate (MH-CLA) through the Corporate and Community Education Division.
Individuals can learn more about these programs and the application process by calling (864) 646-1700 or by attending the orientation/application day Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Sessions will be at 9 a.m. and at 4:30 p.m. in the Industrial and Business Development Center on the Pendleton campus. To register for one of the sessions, call 864-646-1700 or visit www.tctc.edu/NewJob.
The certified production technician class starts January 19 and can be completed in four to six weeks.
The material handler/certified logistics associate class begins January 25 and can be completed in two weeks.
The MSSC Certified Production Technician training curriculum covers safety; quality practices and measurement; manufacturing processes; and production and maintenance awareness.
The MSSC Material Handler/Certified Logistics Associate curriculum covers supply chain, logistics environment, material handling, quality control and work communication. In addition, students will practice on forklift simulators and forklifts in a warehouse setting.
Once accepted, within two weeks of class individuals can participate in interviews with up to 16 premier manufacturers who are seeking applicants said Dr. Rick Cothran, dean of the Corporate and Community Education Division at Tri-County.
“MSSC training is the perfect way for qualified folks to get their foot in the door. Successful students will be guaranteed an interview. We have a 95 percent placement rate with our MSSC program,” he added.
Tri-County administers the MSSC Certified Production Technician and Certified Logistics Associate programs to help build a new workforce through skills upgrades and can reduce on-the-job training for new employees so they can be productive their first day on the job, Dr. Cothran said. “Industry tells us that this type of training cuts on-the-job training by one third.”
Since 2009 Tri-County has taught MSSC classes that assist in providing area companies with a qualified, more productive workforce.
In 2019 Tri-County Technical College was named the third largest awarder of MSSC Certifications nationwide.
