Be in the Operating Room, without the Debt
You can experience the excitement of an operating room without having years of medical school debt to weigh you down. The Surgical Technology Associate Degree program will prepare you to perform various duties during surgery by assisting in the maintenance of an aseptic environment through a system of specific techniques and practices. You'll learn how to contribute to overall patient care as part of the surgical team by passing equipment and instruments to the surgeon, assisting the surgeon, selecting instruments for surgical cases, setting up cases, and assisting the circulatory personnel intraoperatively. As a Surgical Technologist, you could find employment in hospitals, clinics, or physicians’ offices. Hospital employment areas include operating and emergency rooms, labor and delivery, endoscopy units, central sterile processing areas, and ambulatory surgery centers. Daytime courses are offered on the Pendleton Campus, beginning in the Fall Semester.
Admissions Requirements
Annual drug screens will be conducted on new students entering the program. The cost for each student is $35.00 (subject to change) and is attached to the student’s tuition. Student should be prepared to present photo identification at the time of the screening. A 10-panel rapid drug screen (urinalysis) will be utilized. This test will be given prior to clinical rotations in the spring semester. Positive results may lead to withdrawal from the program.
Academic Advising
Academic advising for course registration is mandatory each semester for all students enrolled in degree, diploma, or certificate programs All Health Education advisors will be using Starfish to post office hours that will allow students to make appointments without assistance. Students are able to access Starfish through eTc or Blackboard. Please remember, appointment times are valuable and should be cancelled through Starfish if appointments cannot be kept. Students who schedule appointments with an advisor and no show two times will not be allowed to make another appointment until meeting with the Division Dean to discuss the missed appointments. If you have any questions, call the Health Education Division office at (864) 646-1400.
