Burr Forman McNair is a law firm that provides a service to companies. A good example of what we do is we helped Mercedes Benz build a plant in the U.S. so they could build more cars. When Mercedes wanted to build a plant in America, we helped them with the legal pieces of it such as helping finding a city to build in, helped with contracts for the construction of the plant, helped with how they were going to work with auto part suppliers, and helping Mercedes's leadership manage their employees. 

 

JOBS AT OUR COMPANY

There are many jobs at our law firm. We have attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and internships for students in college and law school. Our law firm also has jobs in departments such as accounting, technology, marketing, human resources, library/research, records, and recruiting.

We have jobs at our law firm for employees with an associate degree, a bachelor's degree, and a law school degree. Classes that would be good to take in school if you want to become a lawyer would be writing classes, reading classes, and public speaking classes if they are offered at your school.

It is very critical because our law firm works in teams. We serve our clients in teams and these teams are made up of employees across state lines with different backgrounds and experiences. GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES

For attorneys, there are opportunities to move up into a "partner" role. A "partner" is a higher-ranking attorney. For other employees, there are many opportunities to move up from an assistant role to a coordinator, manager and eventually, a director of a department. BEST PART OF WORKING HERE

The most rewarding part of the job is helping people. It is fun working with my colleagues to solve problems, especially for people who really need legal help but cannot afford a lawyer. The challenging part is dealing with difficult people. Lawyers have to interact with many people in many situations. Some people can be hard to deal with. As long as you deal with everyone honestly and with integrity, you will be able to work your way through any difficult situation, even if the other person is causing problems.

FUN FACT

We are nearly 115 years old and our clients are some of the largest auto manufacturing brands in the world like Mercedes, Honda, and Hyundai. We helped Mercedes build its first plant in the U.S. in Alabama back in the 1980s.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK

Now that we are slowly easing out of quarantine, our company is expecting to continue to add attorneys and other employees. Our law firm is hoping to eventually expand into other states across the Southeast.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

Our firm has a virtual and in-person "Pre-Law Program" for those students in college who are interested in a career in the legal field. The three-week virtual program features case assessments, a resume/cover letter workshop, a LinkedIn class, a mentorship program, class discussions, and a moot court competition. Students have the opportunity to join virtual meetings with law school admission directors and career counselors from law schools across the U.S., as well as virtual meetings with professors, judges, and practice group leaders at the firm.

Having a career in the law is not like what you see on TV. It is not just about “arguing.” It is about seeing both sides of a problem and working hard for your client to solve that problem. With any career, you want to do something that you enjoy doing. If not, you will make yourself miserable. It is not just about making money. It is about doing something that you love.

Our company loves helping the community. We have 19 offices all over the Southeast and each office has causes and community organizations that they sponsor. There are many volunteer opportunities in every city! Our law firm participates in walks, 5ks, blood drives, chili cook-off teams, toy drives, community festivals, and more.
