FAQs

Contextualization means helping students see how what they’re learning in general education classes connects to real life, careers, and the world around them.

Many students struggle because they don’t see how their coursework matters and relates to their future careers. Contextualization helps make those connections clear, improving engagement and success.

Research shows that when classes are designed to include real-world examples and career connections, students:

  • Do better in their courses
  • Feel more confident
  • Stay more engaged

Right now, it’s up to individual instructors to include this kind of teaching. But Tri-County is working to make it a regular part of every student’s experience—so all students can build skills that link academics to careers and life beyond college.

Students will see more real-world examples, career connections, and practical applications in their general education courses. The goal is to help students better understand how their learning supports their career goals and everyday life.

The initiative is initially mapped out for five years, with planning, implementation, and ongoing assessment happening throughout that time.

Be on the lookout for opportunities to engage with the subgroups. There will be focus groups, surveys, professional development opportunities, and more.
